A family has lost everything in a house fire on Christmas night northeast of Blandinsville.
Blandinsville-Hire Fire Captain Jake Kreps says that his department responded to a?house fire northeast of Blandinsville just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The home's three occupants, father Mike Powell?and his?two daughters, ages 5 and 7,?were able to get out of the one-story, ranch style?home unharmed. Kreps said.
"We were sitting there coloring in the living room, when I saw a glow off the side of my truck and machine shed outside," Powell said. "I walked outside and saw the fire shooting out the roof over the kitchen."
Powell said all items in the home were considered a total loss, including Christmas gifts. The fire was under control by 10 p.m. and hot spots were extinguished by 11 p.m., Kreps said.
Kreps said 30 firefighters from Blandinsville-Hire, Good Hope-Sciota and La Harpe fire departments responded for mutual aid. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Clothing and other items can be donated to the famly by dropping them off at the residence of Connie Powell, Mike's mother, at 501 E. Roberts St in Colchester. Items can also be dropped off at the Scrapbook Nook store in Colchester, from Noon-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, or 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.
Clothing sizes for the family are listed below:
- Men's 2X shirts, 36x30 jeans, 10 1/2 shoes.
- Girls' size 6-7 clothes, 12 and 2 shoes.
