Essential Social Media Reputation Management Tips

Many corporate giants small and large use the various forms of social media to promote their business. Going by definition, social media are internet based interactive media technologies that allow individuals to create and share content.

When a company uses social media the power lies in the hands of users of social media to either build or tarnish the image of the company.

The Internet has given consumers an opportunity to voice their views about products and services the company deals with and about the company itself. This puts a lot of pressure on corporate houses to maintain their online social reputation.

Essential social media reputation management tips

Few things that companies can do to stay in the good books of the public have been discussed.

Have your social media presence diversified

When it comes to corporate presence on social media, it is necessary that you diversify your presence. Do not put all your eggs in one basket. You can create your company profile or business page in more than just one Social Networking Site (SNS).

Each SNS has different target audience who share different opinion about your company. There can be some who share a not so good opinion about your business on social media. However, you will also find positive reviews from your customers raving your company.

Yet another reason why it helps diversifying your businesses presence is because SNS enjoy high ranking on search engines result pages. Thus SNS obtaining a high rank on search engine result pages will automatically push the pages carrying a not so positive content about your business to a low rank. Plan and have enough number of business blog posts and make the presence of your business felt on the various SNS.

Keep in touch with various users of social media

In this digital era, individuals use the Internet and the various forms of social media to look up for information, to educate and to entertain them. A huge mass of your target audience can be reached through social media. Keep in touch with your target audience.

Keep track of what they have to say about your newly launched product or service. If any online advertisement or content about your business is not well received by the target audience, you can analyze what went wrong and change your marketing strategy. Read what topics users are discussing about in the discussion forums and the feedback they leave in the comments section. This will help you understand the pulse of your audience and you can plan for the future accordingly.

Deal positively with negative comments and feedback

Social media gives users the freedom to voice their views and opinion. This is one of the reasons why many individuals make use of it. There can be times when users leave not so good remarks or comments about your business on social media.

As a business owner, you must not get emotional about it and you must handle negative feedback positively. The first thing that you need to do is get in touch with the individual who is responsible for leaving such a comment and seek for clarification. Having understood the context of the comment, you must go ahead and respond accordingly.

If you think it?s your businesses fault, you must apologize for the incontinence the customer faced. Once you step up and take action there are high chances the customer stops passing negative comments, remarks or feedback about your business.

Have in place a strict social media policy

One of the best ways to manage your reputation in the social media is to have in place a media policy for the various forms of social media presence that your business enjoys. You can recruit a team to monitor and maintain your businesses social media presence.

Can Exercise Make You Smarter? | World of Psychology

Can Exercise Make You Smarter?Scientists have long studied exercise and its impact on any number of physical and emotional factors, including bone density, cardiovascular disease and stress.

But if we take the mind-body connection one step further and study exercise and cognitive functioning, will we see a link?

Cognition is your brain?s ability to acquire and process knowledge through thought, experience and your senses.? It involves thinking, remembering, judging and problem-solving.

Our ability to take in information and reason informs our social behavior and can contribute to life?s successes.? For example, you might make a judgment call about whether it is the right time to ask for a raise based on knowledge you?ve acquired and synthesized about your work environment.

A number of research studies have identified a link between improved cognitive functioning and exercise in elderly people.? A 2004 study, for example, found that exercise did, in fact, improve the cognitive functioning of elderly people with cognitive impairments or dementia.? In an analysis of more than 30 years of data and 2,020 subjects, this study found that groups who exercised fared better in terms of mental acuity than those who did not exercise.

Can the same be true for adults of all ages?? According to a recent study presented at the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress and reported in the Wall Street Journal, it can.

This small study involved overweight, sedentary adults.? They first underwent a series of assessments and then completed twice-weekly exercise sessions.? These sessions involved both cardiovascular exercise (biking) and weight training, lasting for four months.

The fitness gains for the group were clear, with reduced waist circumference and lower body weight.? Researchers reported the more surprising result: ??significantly and clinically? improved functioning on tests of mental acuity.

?Even ten minutes can change your brain,? says Harvard Medical School psychiatrist John Ratey, author of the book Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain.? According to Ratey, exercise increases the level of brain chemicals called growth factors.? It is these growth factors that help make new brain cells and establish new connections between brain cells to help us learn.

German researchers found that high school students scored better on high-attention tasks after completing 10 minutes of a complicated fitness task.? Their research suggests that complicated physical activities, such as tennis or dance, enhance our attention and concentration, thereby improving our capacity to learn.

A 2011 Canadian study found that in an elderly population even those who engaged in short walks, cooking, gardening and cleaning scored better on cognitive tests than those who were more sedentary.

According to the Mayo Clinic, exercise has a wide array of benefits including weight control, combating health problems and disease, improved mood, greater energy, better sleep, better sex and more fun.? If these advantages aren?t enough to get you motivated, maybe knowing that it also improves your mind will.

2 people die, 4 sickened by wild mushrooms

By NBC News staff

Two residents of an elderly care home in California died and four other people were hospitalized after eating soup containing poisonous wild mushrooms picked by a caregiver, the Sacramento Bee reported.

Placer County sheriff's Lt. Mark Reed said the incident, reported Friday morning at the Gold Age Villa in Loomis, was believed to be an accident, the Bee reported. Reed said the dead were identified as?Barbara Lopes, 86, and Teresa Olesniewicz, 73. The caregiver was among the four who were hospitalized, the Bee report said.

The Bee said the type of mushroom was not known.

Nearly 6,000 people reported contact with suspicious mushrooms in 2010, and more than 1,300 people got sick, according to latest figures from the American Association of Poison Control Centers. Some 500 people suffered moderate to major injuries and at least one person died.

Most of the victims were sickened by the Amanita phalloides -- death cap -- varieties that produce amatoxins, which shut down liver function.

(AP) ? The newly elected leader of Syria's main opposition bloc in exile struck a combative tone Saturday, saying international inaction rather than divisions among anti-regime groups are to blame for the inability to end the bloodshed in Syria.

George Sabra, the new head of the Syrian National Council, told The Associated Press in an interview that the international community should support those trying to topple President Bashar Assad without strings attached, rather than linking aid to an overhaul of the opposition leadership.

Sabra, a Christian and a veteran left-wing dissident who was repeatedly imprisoned by the regime, said he and others in the opposition feel let down by their Western and Arab allies.

The Syrian opposition may have many foreign friends, he said, "but unfortunately we get nothing from them, except some statements, some encouragement." The regime "has few friends, but these friends give the regime everything," he added, referring to Assad allies Russia, China and Iran.

The U.S. has become increasingly frustrated with the SNC's failure to forge a cohesive and more representative leadership, which would provide a single conduit for future foreign support. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton harshly criticized the group late last month.

Sabra, 65, headed an SNC delegation Saturday in talks with rival opposition groups on forging a new, broader opposition leadership.

The SNC has been reluctant to join such a group, fearing it would lose influence within a larger platform. Under the reform plan presented by another veteran dissident, Riad Seif, the SNC would receive only about one-third of 60 seats to make room for more activists from inside Syria.

Sabra said the SNC agrees that unity within opposition ranks is important, but suggested it would not accept a deal that could lead to its demise.

Senior SNC members portrayed the meeting as the beginning of what could be days of negotiations over the size and mission of such a group.

Seif has said his plan enjoys broad international support. Once a new group is formed, it would be recognized as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people and be given billions of dollars in aid, he said earlier this week.

Sabra said he and the 66-year-old Seif are old friends and even shared a jail cell when both were rounded up after the March 2011 outbreak of the uprising against the regime. "The problem is with the initiative itself," he said of Seif's plan, arguing that it's too vague.

The outcome of the talks will be crucial not just for the SNC, widely seen as out of touch with activists and rebels fighting on the ground but for the future of the entire opposition. Without unity among opposition groups, the international community is unlikely to step up aid.

Sabra said that the West is unfairly trying to shift blame to the opposition for the violent deadlock in the Syria conflict, which activists say has claimed more than 36,000 lives.

"We see that the obstacle in finding a positive solution for the Syrian people and protecting the Syrian people is not the (lack of) unity of the opposition, but the inability of the international community" to take decisive action, he told reporters. Assad's allies have shielded him repeatedly from harsher U.N. Security Council measures.

In the AP interview, Sabra acknowledged that some of the criticism of the SNC was justified but said that this should not serve as an excuse to hold up international aid.

"Let's say, we have our responsibility, no doubt about that, and we will carry this responsibility, but we need from the international community to carry their responsibility also," he said.

Sabra was elected late Friday by 28 of 41 members of the SNC's decision-making body, also chosen during the group's conference this week in the Qatari capital of Doha. The choice of a Christian to lead the SNC could help counter Western concerns about the influence of Islamists from the region-wide Muslim Brotherhood in the group.

Sabra dismissed suggestions that he was chosen as a figurehead acceptable to the West, allowing Islamists pull the strings behind the scenes. "If anybody looks to my profile, nobody can put me as a picture only in front of him," he said.

A senior Brotherhood figure, Mohammed Farouk Taifour, was chosen as Sabra's deputy.

Sabra argued that his election is proof that the Syrian opposition is not beholden to sectarianism, even though Syria's civil war has strong sectarian overtones.

The Assad regime has traditionally courted minorities, including Christians, to shore up its rule. The regime is dominated by Alawites, or followers of an offshoot of Shiite Islam, while most of the rebels are Sunni Muslim. Sabra said he believes Christian support for Assad is slipping.

Sabra has been a prominent opposition figure since 1970, initially in the Communist party and later as a social democrat, and was jailed from 1987 to 1995. After the start of the uprising, Sabra was imprisoned twice more, fled to Jordan on foot a year ago and settled in Paris. Sabra is a veteran politician, but said he also taught geography in high school and wrote for children's TV, including the Arabic version of Sesame Street.

The new SNC leader said Syrians will continue fighting even if the international community does not step up.

"We will fetch weapons everywhere, we will depend on ourselves," he said. "There is no way for Syrians to give up seeking ... freedom and dignity."

As nation pauses to honor war veterans, New Orleans VFW post ...

?Our growth has been exponential.'' -- post commander Marshall Hevron

A former sailor who served aboard a guided-missile destroyer in the Arabian Sea, Clyde Thompson recalls the sparsely attended monthly meetings when he joined the only Veterans of Foreign Wars post left on New Orleans? east bank. ?We split two pizzas, and everybody was full,? he joked.

Just over a year later, it?s a dramatically different scene at the VFW Alfred E. Flynn Post 8973, named for a son of the Irish Channel who was killed in the Philippines during World War II.

During the post's October meeting, every available seat was taken inside the former corner grocery at Annunciation and Lyons streets that is slowly being converted into a suitable meeting place for a group whose membership requires service in harm?s way. Many veterans were left to stand against the walls as the post?s officers discussed business, such as dipping into their $11,000 in savings for roof repairs.

Welcome to the fastest-growing VFW post in Louisiana. ?Our growth has been exponential,? said the post?s commander, Marshall Hevron, a lawyer and former Marine who participated in the 2003 Iraq invasion.

In recent years, Post 8973 foundered on non-existence, following the fate of other New Orleans posts that were once populated by veterans of World War II and the Korean War. By the time Hevron joined the post in early 2005, it had ?just a handful of guys, five or six,? he said. Death and old age further decimated the post?s membership, he said.

But as the nation prepares to honor its war veterans this weekend -? Veterans Day is Sunday -- it?s a different story for Post 8973. Thanks to a resurgence of eligible members from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the post has more than 100 members, enough even to form a ladies? auxiliary and to make a sizable appearance in New Orleans? bicentennial parade Saturday.

About three-fourths of them served in Iraq or Afghanistan, although the post has also attracted some veterans from the Vietnam and the Persian Gulf wars, Hevron said. And they keep coming. Just this past week, Hevron was contacted by a woman who served in the Navy in Afghanistan; a handful of new members are women. ?I don?t even know how they find us, but they find us,? Hevron said of new members.

Brought together by common experience, the veterans include lawyers, doctors, students and even some unemployed members. ?When they step foot in here, none of that matters anymore,? said Matt Spector, an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan as an intelligence analyst.

The group has an agenda that includes advocating for fellow veterans, which is a core VFW mission. During the past year, the veterans have held resume-writing workshops to help veterans seek jobs. It was that mission that attracted Tom Fierke, a retired Army colonel who served in Iran in 1978-79 and in the Persian Gulf War. He belonged to a VFW post but did not participate.

?I thought it was going to be World War II guys drinking cheap beer and smoking cigars,? Fierke said. ?And this post is doing things, out in the community helping.?

The post's members are working to establish a law clinic for veterans, Hevron said, and they?re reaching out to homeless veterans. They?ve set up a post website and a Facebook page, where last week they reached Hevron?s goal of having 500 ?likes? by Veterans Day.

In the meantime, they?re renovating the former corner grocery and its attached apartments, funded largely by the recent sale of a neighboring shotgun house on Annunciation Street. ?The dream that we had for rebuilding this place is really close to fruition,? said Ryan Smith, the post?s vice chairman who served in Afghanistan with the Army National Guard.

Another of the elder members, Larry Jones, who served 17 years in the Air Force, including in Vietnam, followed by 24 years in the Coast Guard, used to belong to the VFW Post 6640 in Metairie. He transferred to Post 8973 after hearing of the work the younger veterans are doing.

?This is what VFW is all about in the future,? said Jones, who guides the post

Indeed, said Precilla Wilkewitz of Baton Rouge, the state?s VFW adjutant/quartermaster, the organization is founded on activism, working to ensure veterans? benefits are intact. The young veterans at Post 8973, she said, are ?setting a precedent? among the organization?s newer members.

?That?s really how VFW starts,? said Wilkewitz, an Army veteran from the Vietnam War. ?They begin at the grassroots level. They?re continuing their service. They served in the military and now they?re serving their communities. That?s what they do at 8973.?

While they seek to serve, the new war veterans also are seeking camaraderie.

?We have this special connection that so few Americans have,? said Spector, who with his wife, Michele, owns hearing clinics in New Orleans and River Ridge.

For Thompson, who served as a Navy cryptologist, membership provided him with comfort when he moved to New Orleans from his native Washington D.C., to attend law school at Loyola University.

?I came down here with no family, no nothing,? Thompson said. ?They took me in.?

New Franchisees Donate Landscaping Labor During Training Week ...

It was a sunny and mild November day in Temple, Texas. As the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Temple comes into view, bright yellow-and-green ?I Care? shirts stand out against the faded autumn leaves.

On November 8, four new The Grounds Guys? franchise owners took a break from their busy training week in Waco, forty miles to the north, to join The Grounds Guys corporate staff and Bell County franchise owner, William Johnson, for Monika Day, a day of giving back to the community. They spent the afternoon clearing flowerbeds, trimming trees, cleaning up the playground, and planting pansies and daffodil bulbs. They wrapped up the day by cooking dinner for the house residents and staff, all the time having fun in the process.

The Grounds Guys - RMHC of Temple on Monika Day

During training week, new The Grounds Guys owners joined local franchisees and the home office staff at RMHC of Temple to beautify the property and give back for Monika Day.

This was the second annual Monika Day in the U.S., established to honor the memory of Monika Woerlen, the late sister of the ten Van Stralen brothers who founded? The Grounds Guys in Canada. On a tragic day in 2004, she and her seven children died in a house fire in Canada.

The Grounds Guys wanted to dedicate the anniversary of her death as a day to give back to families. RMHC, of which The Grounds Guys is a national corporate sponsor, was a natural fit. RMHC has 290 houses in the U.S. that provide housing for families who are away from home to seek medical treatment for a sick child. Nationwide, RMHC supports 4.5 million families annually.

?Monika Day is a day for us to go out and share the Culture of Care on a grand scale, from coast to coast,? said Peter Van Stralen, founding member of?The Grounds Guys. ?The purpose of this day is to touch as many lives as possible, to turn a tragedy? a day of sadness, a day of mourning? into a day of

happiness and giving, a day of turning lives around. When you put smiles on people?s faces, you take their mind off the troubles they?re going through, and you help them to heal. That?s really what this is all about.?

In 2012, The Grounds Guys franchisees hosted Monika Day events and donated labor to local RMHC houses all over the country, including Charlotte, N.C., Hartford, Conn., Sonoma, Calif., Virginia Beach, Va., and many others.

A week with the iPhone 5 on EE, the UK's first 4G network

Last week, EE publicly flipped the switch on its 4G network. Launching LTE in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and (parts of) Southampton. EE also plans for an additional five cities before the new year. The new phone network, composed of equal parts T-Mobile and Orange, has other plans -- and they start from £21 SIM-only (starting November 9th) while phone packages begin at £36 per month. For that, the new network offers its customers 500MB of data, plus unlimited calls and texts.

The data plans scale up from there, all the way up to 8GB of monthly data, alongside a system of on-off data bundles. So being an earlier adopter comes at a very specific cost -- are the wonders of a next-generation network worth it? We inserted a fresh EE 4G SIM into an iPhone 5 and now have been using it for over a week, get our full verdict after the break.

Transonic Combustion Gets $32M for Advanced Fuel Injection ...

Transonic Combustion, a developer of fuel injection technology for internal combustion engines, raised $32 million in Round D venture funding from Venrock, Khosla Ventures, Rustic Canyon and Saints Capital, according to Dan Primack at Fortune.

According to the company's website, injecting supercritical fuel directly into the combustion chamber enables improvements in efficiency. The company states that "supercritical injection enables cost-effective compression ignition of gasoline in engines with a conventional architecture. This is described as ?Injection Ignition,? and it results in efficiencies that are equal to or better than today?s Diesel engines." ?

Despite the attention paid to electric cars like Tesla and the Volt or hybrids like the Prius or Fisker, startups and some of the major carmakers are focused on better gas mileage. Surely one way to ratchet back petroleum usage is to double miles per gallon performance.

Firms like Achates Power and EcoMotors have developed dual compression/dual piston engines. These companies claim they can achieve 100 miles per gallon. Ford has an Escort in Europe which gets 65 miles a gallon on diesel. Scuderi has a new engine technology, as does Zajac Motors. Other startups are working on batteries or capacitors for emerging "microhybrids."

With a CAFE standard for vehicle fleets of 54.5 mpg by 2025, many automotive and battery startups -- Scuderi, EcoMotors, Achates Power, WrightSpeed, Nanostellar, PowerGenix, etc. -- hope to license their technologies for energy-efficient engines and other components to major car makers. Carmakers are reluctant to license, and selling to the automotive sector is always a challenge -- even more so for a cash- and time-strapped VC funded startup. But it's either build your own vehicle, or work with the majors.

Here are some technologies looking to get to better gas mileage:

1. Diesel: Diesel engines generally get better mileage than their gas counterparts and auto manufacturers have managed to cut down the particulate matter, SOx and NOx, that gave diesel a bad name in the '70s, '80s and '90s. Nearly half of all U.S. gas stations have diesel now too, Audi execs tell us.?

2. Electrics and Plug-In Hybrids: Toyota, Ford, Volkswagen, Honda and most other manufacturers all have electrics coming. Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has said electrics will constitute 10 percent of industry shipments by 2020 -- 85 million cars will be sold and 8.5 million will be electric, he claims. Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has said electrics could account for 12 percent or so of vehicle sales by 2020. Cynics put the figure in single digits, warning of evaporating incentives.

3. Regular Hybrids: Ford execs predict that 10 percent to 25 percent of their cars will be electrics, plug-ins or hybrids by 2020. But the vast majority will be regular hybrids.

4. Stop-Start: Also called microhybrids, these cars are like regular hybrids but they have very small electric motors that engage mostly to allow a car to get started quickly. With a micro, a gas engine can go to sleep at an intersection. A microhybrid system can improve gas mileage by 6 percent to 10 percent, according to Dan Squiller, former CEO of battery maker PowerGenix.

5. Waste Heat: Approximately 50 percent of all energy purchased gets lost as waste heat, according to UC Berkeley. Engines are particularly attractive sources for waste heat: some estimate that 85 percent of the energy injected into engines gets wasted. That heat can be captured, compressed and then exploited to run the air conditioning system. Panasonic has developed a waste heat AC system for cars: it is derived from a household AC unit. (See video here.) Tempronics, Phononic Devices and Alphabet Energy are also working on devices for converting waste heat into electricity.?

6. New Engines: Pinnacle Engines is working on an opposed-piston gas engine, while EcoMotors and Achates Power have opposed-piston diesels. Pinnacle says it can improve fuel consumption by 25 percent to 50 percent. Opposed piston engines were used in aircraft in WW II, but have been refined and retrofitted now for cars. These engines also require fewer raw materials like steel.

Expect to see new, improved engines from the established players. Ford is expanding the number of models of cars it makes that will come with its EcoBoost engines. GM and Toyota have worked on HCCI engines for years. (Include Transonic Combustion in the startups-with-mileage-tech-to-license category.)

7. Plastics and Carbon:? Weight. It's the third fuel. If you drop weight, mileage goes up.?Bright Automotive, a startup that spun out of the Rocky Mountain Institute, is working on light delivery trucks. GM is an investor. Non-metallic bodies can also be curved for great aerodynamics. Aluminum will come first along with other lightweight alloys.?

8. Hemp: Nearly every automaker is tinkering with ways to replace traditional car materials -- aluminum, rubber, etc. -- with sustainable ones like old plastic and hemp. Ford and others already exploit soy and other renewables.??

9. Innovative Transmissions: Fallbrook Technologies pulled its IPO early last year, but its invention, the NuVinci, is still intriguing: a highly variable transmission that relies on balls instead of gears. The company claims it can improve mileage by 12 percent to 15 percent.

10. Hydrogen and Fuels Cells. Honda and other automakers keep pushing out the deadline for hydrogen cars, and for good reason. Hydrogen is dirty to make, you can't transport it easily and the cars cost a ton of money. Honda, Mercedes, and others continue to research the concept. Maybe by 2025??

Domain Holdings Going The Extra Mile(s) | Elliot's Blog

I received s press release that reminded me about an article I wrote a couple of years ago. In the article, I said ?I think it might be a smart idea to attend an industry tradeshow in a vertical where you are selling a domain name to try and close a deal.?

It looks like Domain Holdings had the same idea, and it?s going to take them across the world to connect with potential domain name buyers. According to the release, someone from Domain Holdings ?will be presenting five premium domains to the world stage at two of the longest running United Arab Emirates tradeshows from November 4-14, The Big 5 International Building and Construction Show and ADIPEC. The premium domain names include: Gas.com, Oil.com, Energy.com, AbuDhabi.com and Dubai.com.?

One thing vie learned in this business is that emails and phone calls often go unanswered, even if you have the perfect domain name for sale. Executives are busy, and assistants who screen calls and emails often filter out sales pitch contacts, even if the product would be desired.

When you meet people in person, you can usually have a better conversation while answering any questions directly. You can get direct contact information to avoid having to go through intermediaries in order to reach the decision maker. In addition, it?s always helpful if you can remind the contact about your meeting and get through an admin by saying that his or her boss told you to call.

Attending a tradeshow will give Domain Holdings the opportunity to meet with many prospects at once, which also gives the impression that the opportunity may be jumped on by s competitor. There are a couple of other reasons attending a tradeshow to sell a domain name is a good idea, which I previously wrote about in one of my first blog posts from back in 2007:

?Small business owners are accustomed to dealing face-to-face with account representatives from the companies with whom they do business. Much of their business is done with a handshake in person at a tradeshow ? especially when opening a new account with a supplier. For the most part, this is impossible to do on the Internet. To many small businesses, learning how to successfully operate with the help of the Internet is a daunting challenge. Why not meet with these business owners in person, make them feel comfortable and win their business? All of this can be accomplished by attending industry specific tradeshows.?

It seems that some domain brokers prefer the ?low hanging fruit,? which is fine, but Domain Holdings is going the extra mile to close a deal on these names. Should these high value domain names sell as a result of this effort, the company has certainly earned its commission.

Press release follows:

Domain Holdings Group, a world-class leader in domain lifecycle management and premium domain name brokerage, announced Monday that it will be presenting five premium domains to the world stage at two of the longest running United Arab Emirates tradeshows from November 4-14, The Big 5 International Building and Construction Show and ADIPEC. The premium domain names include: Gas.com, Oil.com, Energy.com, AbuDhabi.com and Dubai.com.

The separate four-day tradeshows will be held in Dubai (The Big 5) and Abu Dhabi (ADIPEC). Domain Holdings will select a meeting site once at the respective venues. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Niko Younts, Global Domain Asset Consultant & Broker, for more information ? Niko(at)domainholdings(dot)com, or call 1.513.225.4757.

The U.A.E. is one of the Middle East?s most technologically advanced nations and also one of the world?s strongest economies with USD $1 trillion in foreign invested assets. Its growth is driven by its natural resource exports as well as its investment in infrastructure. Premium domains like Gas.com, Oil.com, Energy.com, AbuDhabi.com and Dubai.com fit the region?s high profile as a world economic leader.
?There is no question that the U.A.E. is iconic on the global scale for its unprecedented growth, innovation and expansion. Naturally, that expansion has precipitated a crossover into global business opportunities ? and at the global level domain names can be the catalyst for exposure to either the country or businesses operating in it to the global business community,? Domain Holdings co-founder John Ferber said. Ferber was the co-founder of Advertising.com ? which sold to AOL in 2006 for nearly USD $500 million and eventually became cornerstone for America Online?s AOL Advertising business. ?There is only one Dubai and there is also only one Dubai.com.?
Premium Generic Domain Facts:
-Three-letter .COM Domains see an increased demand because of their limited supply. All possible three-letter .Com and .NET names are registered.
Single-word industry specific domain names have accounted for more than 80% of the 73 reported USD $1M or greater sales dating back to 1999. Examples include: Call.com USD $1.1M, Invest.com USD $1.015M)
Energy, from renewable, clean and alternative, is a trillion dollar industry according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance
The premium domain name aftermarket has seen a double-digit increase in median sale prices over the course of the last year and sales in more than 160 countries worldwide.
Premium Geo Domain Facts and Figures:
Britain.com sold for USD $1M in 2000
Korea.com sold for USD $5M in 2000
International tourism has seen 4% year-over-year growth and is a USD $1B-plus industry as many Geo city and country names are used in some capacity to attract visitors.
The largest known geo .COM sale in 2012 was Denver.com for an undisclosed mid seven-figure price
The Big 5 International Building and Construction Show opens on Monday November 5 and lasts for four days. The event will take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The United Arab Emirates accounts for nearly USD $7 billion of the USD $4.2 trillion in ongoing construction projects in the region, and is a fitting locale for the show, which offers attendees access to panels and discussions with the world?s foremost authorities in the building and construction sector.
Domain Holdings will also be represented at ADIPEC from November 11-14, ADIPEC is the largest oil and gas exhibition in the Middle East. Organized by the Energy Group and the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the four-day event offers conference attendees presentations, panel discussions and plenary sessions from some of the top oil and gas companies in the world. The event draws more than 1,500 applicants in 58 different countries. The focus of ADIPEC 2012 is ?Sustainable Energy Growth: People, Responsibility and Innovation? and will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center.

Hometown Realty ? Hutchinson MN Real Estate ? Buying a Home ...

Been thinking about buying a home? Well, maybe you should put it on your Christmas list.

Although the holidays tend to be an off-season for the real estate and mortgage industries, there are some good reasons to buy a home toward the end of the year. Although if you?re going to do it, you need to get cracking now.

For one thing, the fact that the holiday season is a slow one for the housing market works in your favor. There are fewer people shopping for a home at that time, so you have less competition bidding for the good properties.

hometown realty hutchinson mn
Good deals may be available

The asking price on some homes may have been reduced in price after they did not sell during the busier fall and late summer seasons. In fact, home prices are typically at their lowest of the year in December, although broader trends must still be taken into account.

People showing their homes at that time of year are often hopeful of getting a sale nailed down by year?s end, so they may be more amenable to negotiation. The fact that it?s the holiday season also tends to put people in a more generous mood as well.

Real estate agents, lenders looking for business

It?s also a slow time for many real estate agents, who may be keen for any business they can find and more available to focus on you as a customer. The fact that business is slow for both real estate agents and mortgage lenders during the holiday season often means you can get your transactions processed more quickly than at other times of year, because they?ve got fewer deals to handle.

Lenders may also be more willing to shave a few points off mortgage offer in order to make a deal, both because business is slow and also because they may want to get the loan on their books before year?s end.

Tax considerations

Closing on a home before the end of the year also means you can deduct certain settlement costs on your taxes for that year. These include any pro-rated property taxes and prepaid mortgage interest paid at closing. Since discount points are a form of prepaid interest, you can deduct those as well for the year in which you bought the home, but only on a home purchase mortgage ? tax deductions for points paid for refinancing a mortgage must be amortized over the life of the loan.

This brings up a potential downside to buying a home late in the year, which you also need to be aware of. For many homeowners, mortgage interest is what allows them to itemize deductions on their tax returns, rather than just paying the standard deduction. This means they can start including smaller deductions they may not have been able to get credit for in the past, such as for certain work-related expenses, home improvements or charitable donations.

Possible downsides

However, if you?re not itemizing deductions already, buying a home late in the year may mean that you won?t pay enough in interest to be able to itemize deductions on your next tax return ? including those other settlement costs you otherwise might have been able to deduct. Remember, if your total deductions don?t add up to at least your standard deduction ($5,950 for a single taxpayer, $8,700 for a head of household or $11,900 for a couple filing jointly for 2012), it?s not worth itemizing.

There can also be a few other downsides to buying a home over the holidays. Real estate agents may be on vacation, since it?s already a slow time for them. There may be fewer open houses where you can visit homes for sale. Your own schedule may be crowded with your own holiday preparations and activities.

That being said, there are still some pretty good deals to be had by buying a home over the holidays. If the timing works for you, a new home can make a very nice Christmas present for you and your family. Contact the Hutchinson, MN real estate experts at Hometown Realty for more information if you are thinking about buying or selling a home.

Authors Marjorie M. Liu and Stephanie Chong interview each other ...

A Boing Boing exclusive: authors Stephanie Chong and Marjorie M. Liu interview each other!

Stephanie Chong (left) is author of the paranormal romance series The Company of Angels.

Marjorie M. Liu (right) is the New York Times bestselling author of the paranormal romance series Dirk & Steele, urban fantasy series Hunter Kiss, and is the writer for Marvel's Astonishing X-Men comics, including the infamous issue #51 featuring Marvel's first gay wedding.

Stephanie Chong: What parts of researching your books have personally interested you the most?

Marjorie M. Liu: I love to read all kinds of crazy non-fiction -- histories, science -- magazines, newspapers. I never know what?s going to inspire me, and once I?m inspired, I read like a maniac about that specific idea or topic. Research is the best, but it never stops.

I loved the international setting of Demoness. Did you do any personal travel for your research?

SC: I wrote about Venice from memory. I?ve been there three times, but the last time I went was seven years ago. I did a lot of research online. Venice is a small city, and memorable, so it was manageable.

My next book is set in France, and while I?ve spent a lot of time there, I did take a trip to Paris and Normandy specifically to map out the characters? journey. It was a great excuse to take a vacation, and an interesting way to travel.

ML: Was there a key book that inspired you?

SC: I think every book I?ve ever read has inspired me in a different way. I was one of those kids who was constantly scribbling, and I knew at a very early age that I wanted to be a writer.

In terms of writing paranormal romance, I started to think, ?Hey, I could do this!? right after I read Kerrelyn Sparks? How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire.

And of course Tiger Eye inspired me (and I?m not just saying that)! Honestly, you have always been one of my biggest inspirations in this industry. Knowing that a young, Asian-American lawyer-turned-paranormal romance novelist existed made me realize that the transition from law to writing was possible. I seriously don?t know if I would have done it without knowing it could be done.

Speaking of Tiger Eye and your writing in general, you have a wonderful style that ranges from very poetic and lyrical to action-packed and intense. With regards to paranormal romance in particular, I?ve always found that you have a very tasteful way of writing love scenes. How do you do it?

ML: Well, there?s a difference between a love scene (in my mind) and a sex scene. Sex scenes are so difficult for me at this point, that if I never had to write another one, I?d be thrilled. Maybe I need to read some more issues of Cosmopolitan for inspiration! But right now, I?m of the opinion that sometimes leaving it to the imagination can be way more erotic for the reader.

Now, love scenes...that?s a different story. I think of love scenes as those moments of vulnerability and intimacy that develop between the main characters -- often times unexpected -- and those are what I enjoy best. Those quiet, sensitive, secret moments that create lasting bonds, that become trust, that become love. Because the sex doesn?t really change (the sex scenes that I write, anyway), but each character and their most important romantic relationships are uniquely different. That?s what holds the book together -- these revelations and developments that lead to love. Writing them, though...the way it all comes together, is dependent entirely on the characters themselves. So I play it by ear. Each book is different.

What?s your take on sex scenes and love within the genre?

SC: I also find it increasingly difficult to write love and sex scenes. But I try to focus on the progression of intimacy between the characters, and how their physical relationship mirrors their emotional relationship.

ML: Also, in The Demoness of Waking Dreams, you took on this incredibly difficult task of taking two characters who couldn?t be further apart -- and then weaving them together in a beautiful, believable, and loving way. That?s incredibly difficult to do, but you made it look easy. How was it for you, bringing Brandon and Luciana together? What was the inspiration when you began developing their love story, and how did you go about building intimacy and trust between an angel and a demon?

SC: It was like pulling teeth to get Brandon and Luciana to interact on the page! It took a long time for them to warm up to each other - it was almost like working with actors who had just met each other. My characters, and these characters in particular, are pretty vivid when I work with them, even before the story begins. They have preferences, and they?re stubborn - especially Luciana. As the story progressed, they seemed to build their own chemistry, though.

The inspiration for the book really grew out of the first book. Luciana, to me, was the most interesting secondary character in that book. And she needed to meet her match.

ML: What is it about secondary characters? It seems like they?re the ones who become most alive in the process of writing a book -- which is great, because they inspire more stories!

SC: In general, do you have any advice for writers who are starting out?

ML: Read! Read! Read! There?s no magic bullet, other than reading and writing and writing and reading. But everyone is different -- we all have our own path.

What was the turning point for you? Was there a moment where everything came together for you as a writer?

SC: I?m still waiting for that moment! Just kidding (partially). I definitely feel like I?m still developing as a writer, and I hope I never stop learning. That?s part of what I love about the craft - there?s always something to learn, and to me, it?s endlessly fascinating!

ML: I feel exactly the same as you. We never stop learning.

SC: What?s your next adventure, whether in writing or in life?

ML: I?m working on the next Hunter Kiss book, Labyrinth of Stars. And, as always, the comic books -- in this case, monthly issues of Astonishing X-Men.

ML: I have the same question for you, Stephanie! What?s next?

SC: I?m working on Book III of the ?Company of Angels? series.

Thanks again for taking the time out of your busy schedule to chat with me today, Marjorie! It has been an absolute pleasure!

ML: No, thank you. It?s been wonderful speaking with you.

Factbox: Paul Ryan, Republican vice presidential candidate

(Reuters) - U.S. Representative Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney's vice presidential candidate in the 2012 election, is a "young gun" out of the Republican Party's more conservative wing.

Here are key facts about Ryan.

- Ryan, 42, a rising star among the fiscal conservatives who dominate the Republican Party, has served seven terms in the House of Representatives since first being elected in 1998 on a platform opposing tax increases and espousing gun rights.

- A budget hawk committed to slashing federal spending and promoting small government, he put forward a controversial plan in 2009 to reform the tax code and eliminate the federal deficit, relying on tax cuts, reduced spending and a drastic overhaul of healthcare entitlements for the elderly. It was defeated in the House but the plan has become closely associated with him.

- Both his father and grandfather died of heart attacks in their 50s, making Ryan mindful of a healthy lifestyle. He leads some of his fellow lawmakers in a grueling daily exercise group. He is also a fan of the P90X DVD workout and his off-the-clock hobbies include hunting, fishing and camping.

- Ryan became the top-ranked Republican member of the powerful House Budget Committee in 2007 and the committee's chairman in 2011 after the Republicans took control of the House in the 2010 mid-term elections.

- He has spent most of his career in Washington and has had little business experience beyond a stint at the construction firm his great-grandfather started.

- Ryan is recognized as an articulate and nimble debater who has a sense of humor and intellectual heft. Even Democrats say they admire his grasp of complicated fiscal issues and his sincerity in attacking problems contributing to a mountain of U.S. debt. President Barack Obama has commended Ryan for his serious approach to budgeting, while attacking the specific proposals.

- Ryan is perhaps best known for his proposal to restructure the popular government-run Medicare program by giving the elderly a set amount, or voucher, to buy private health insurance, a move he says is necessary to save the system. Democrats say that would cost American seniors thousands of dollars a year and accuse Ryan of trying to balance the budget on the backs of the disadvantaged.

- Ryan is a Roman Catholic. He has tempered his publicly stated strict anti-abortion position since becoming Romney's running mate, saying a Romney-Ryan administration would permit the procedure in cases of rape and incest and when a mother's life is in danger.

- He was born and raised in Janesville, Wisconsin. He is a fifth-generation resident of the state, which voted for Obama in 2008 but is a hotly contested battleground in this year's White House race. Ryan frequently cites his Midwestern roots and is an avid Green Bay Packers football fan.

- Ryan graduated in 1992 with a double major in economics and political science from Miami University in Ohio. He has named conservative economist Milton Friedman and pro-capitalist philosopher and novelist Ayn Rand among his heroes.

- When Congress is in session, Ryan sleeps in his Capitol Hill office instead of renting a home in Washington. He says the practice makes sense because he often works to midnight and gets up at 6 a.m. He showers at the gym. He travels back to Wisconsin frequently to spend time with his wife, Janna Little, a tax attorney, and their three young children.

- Ryan was largely absent from the big fiscal debates of 2011 - from Republicans' showdown with Obama over a deficit-reduction plan, to the failed "super committee" effort to find an additional $1.2 trillion in savings, and the fight over a payroll tax cut extension. Ryan voted against a massive deficit-reduction proposal floated by a presidential commission in 2010, complaining that it did not do enough to control healthcare costs and relied heavily on tax increases.

- When navigating the halls of Congress, Ryan almost always is seen listening to music through earbuds, making it easier for him to breeze past reporters. His favorite bands include Rage Against The Machine and Led Zeppelin.

Vegetarian Slow Cooker Recipes | Joy of Kosher with Jamie Geller

There?s something to be said for that infomercial that instructs you to ?Set it and Forget it.? The infomercial promises lifetime fulfillment in the kitchen.

The recent demise of my slow cooker had me rethinking the way I prepare dinner. To be honest, I have never been a power user of the slow cooker. The bulky appliance was more or less relegated to cholent or stew cooking on Shabbat and then shoved in a cabinet for the rest of the week.

I mourn the loss of any kitchen appliance, but the slow cooker didn?t fluster me too much. I wasn?t sure if I?d even replace it. Gasp! How would I prepare Shabbat meals? It?s not so bad. We didn?t always rely on that slow cooker. We hadn?t had any cholent all summer long. Then suddenly, September and October showed up and Fall set in. The weather got chillier and I was craving some warm foods. Maybe I did need a slow cooker.

While browsing through my email, an ad for a slow cooker on Amazon showed up. A beautiful red Crockpot at a price I couldn?t turn down. Did I mention that I?m a sucker for a good deal on a kitchen appliance?? The slow cooker showed up right around Sukkot time. This got me thinking about the chilly meals in the sukkah and what I could do to warm them up. The slow cooker allowed me to go beyond soup and take up one less burner.

I quickly learned that I actually like this new appliance and that it can work for me ? way beyond that weekly cholent. It is truly a blessing! Just like the commercials tell you ? it is very versatile.

Slow Cooker Vegetable Curry with Rice

I work full time, and when I come home, I typically have a 30-minute window before my children are loudly demanding dinner. It dawned on me that I could employ my slow cooker. I thought about what kinds of dishes would appeal to the family after a long day. I decided to keep this appliance pareve for now. My daughter and I stopped eating meat and I haven?t decided which way this pot should go.

slow cooker vegetable seitan stew

Slow Cooker Vegetable Seitan Stew

It was a typical weekday morning and I woke up bleary-eyed and ready to test this thing out. I chopped up some veggies and protein and moved forward.? I had my husband turn on the slow cooker to low before he left for work.? As I sat at work, I was tempted to have a neighbor check on my kitchen. My backup plan was a box of Wacky Mac or some take-out sushi. Eight hours later, I came home to an amazing smell. Even my kids were impressed. So we dug in.

I was so happy with the results of the first weeknight stew, I decided to incorporate more vegetarian slow cooker options in to our weeknight repertoire. This Vegetable Curry and Vegetable Seitan stew are easy and healthy options to add to your dinner list. I highly recommend them!

Hi, I?m Hindy! I love to experiment in the kitchen and talk about it. I?m a 30-something mom to two beautiful girls, one of them with special needs. I work full time for a non profit, and live on the East Coast. Having grown up in the Midwest, it was a welcome Foodie jump. I have eclectic food tastes.
